The GED (General Educational Development) Preparation program prepares students to pass the five-part GED exam which includes Language Arts Writing Skills, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts Reading Skills and Mathematics. It also instructs students in test-taking and problem-solving skills and allows students to practice with the GED format to prepare them for the exam.

All of the questions on the GED Tests are multiple choice, except for one part of the writing test, which requires you to write an essay. Those who pass the GED, which is offered in English and Spanish, are awarded a Connecticut State High School Diploma.

Groton Public Library
Department of Labor/One Stop
Southeastern Mental Health         
          Authority (SMHA)

Evenings:

Adult Education Center, Norwich
East Lyme High School
West Side Middle School, Groton
Griswold High School
Stonington High School

Requirements for GED Exam Applicants

Applicants must present a recent, state photo I.D. with date of birth (photo must be issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles or other government office.)

Applicants must be 17 years old or older.

Applicants ages 17 or 18 must have been withdrawn from school for 6 months OR applicant's high school class must have graduated.

Any applicants under the age of 19 must submit an official letter from the last high school they attended certifying that their class has graduated or that they have been withdrawn from school for 6 months. Applicants under the age of 19 will not be scheduled until this letter has been submitted to the Adult Education Center located at 182 Cedar Street, Norwich, CT.

Applicants must provide a Connecticut address.

Applicants 21 years of age and older must pay a fee of $13.00 to take the GED exam.

Retakes, incompletes, and no-shows aged 21 and older must pay an additional $13.00 fee each time they register for the exam.
