School Nurse

In the health office, the school nurse takes care of any child (or adult) throughout the day. (There are many reasons for a health room visit besides being sick or hurt.) Medications and/or treatments can be administered on a daily or as needed basis depending on the doctor's order.

Annual screenings include vision and hearing for all grades and blood pressure and scoliosis for fifth graders. Referrals are sent home as needed. Hair checks are done periodically throughout the year. Basic Aid training is taught to fourth graders. (This is a six week American Red Cross course dealing with various aspects of health and safety.)

A cumulative health record is established and maintained on each student. This record follows the student until he/she has left the school or graduated. Complete physical examinations are required of all students entering school and again in grades 6 and 10. All children must have the mandated immunizations as required by the state. These are monitored by the nurse for compliance.
