Mrs.Tanksley Art

The art curriculum provides many opportunities for Art Exploration. A student views the wonder of it all, from pottery made by ancient people, to a gigantic flower bursting off the canvas by Georgia O’Keefe, to a realistic painting that evokes emotion. Students are exposed to a multitude of media and techniques in the art room and are encouraged to take risks, celebrate their creative spirit and individuality.

 

 


Mr.Santo Music

The Music Program provides  the following opportunities to all students in grades K-5:
  • to give students an informed acquaintance with quality music of various genres, styles, cultures and historical period.
  • to celebrate cultural diversity as an importance American privilege.
  • to enable students to acquire interpersonal skills, self-discipline, perseverance, the collaborative spirit, enhansing their ability to function as productive members of the community.
  • to empower students with musical knowledge and experiences toward developing a lifelong commitment to music as a creator, performer and/or consumer.
  • to provide students with a vehicle for self-expression, communication, and creative thinking.

In conclusion, Music is a basic expression of humanity; therefore every student at Mahan School will have access to a balances, comprehensive, and sequential program in Music.

 



Physical Education

 

Mr.Dalton Physical Education

Program goals for physical education are modeled after the State of Connecticut Guide to Program Development based on Connecticut content strands for physical education. Program goals include:
  • demonstrating the skills and knowledge necessary to participate in a variety of physical activities
  • making decisions to establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle to promote individual wellness throughout his/her life
  • recognizing and understanding the different effects of physical activity on one's mind and body
  • developing interpersonal cooperative skills and exhibiting positve character traits during physical activity.
  • Some examples of physical activities are:

Juggling - Parachute - Fitness Cooperative Games - Balance

Striking - Throwing

Ribbon Dance
Frisbee Golf - Recess Games
