Enrollment Age Requirements
The minimum age for enrollment in adult education is 17 years of age.
Current state law in Connecticut (C.G.S. 10-84) mandates attendance in school up to age 18. A parent or guardian must be involved in the withdrawal of any student under the age of 18. As of July 1, 2011 the age at which a parent/guardian can withdraw a student from school was raised from age 16 to 17. A parent/guardian wishing to withdraw a 17 year old from school must: Personally appear at the School District Office and sign a withdrawal form.
The form itself must include: A statement signed by a Guidance Counselor or School Administrator, verifying that the parent/guardian has been provided information about educational options available in the school system and community.
A copy of this withdrawal form MUST be provided for the student file at adult education sites BEFORE the student can begin adult education classes.
