Library Media Center

Welcome to

Uncas Elementary School

Library Media Center

Library Media Specialist:  Mrs. Susan Peyton

Library Technical Assistant:  Ms. Derrie Ann Cordeiro

The Uncas library media curriculum is based upon the State of Connecticut's Frameworks for library media centers entitled, "Learning Resources and Technology."  It is important that we prepare our students for the future and provide them with the resources they will need to be successful in middle school, high school, and beyond.

Students visit the Library Media Center on a weekly basis.  During this time, the Kindergarteners thru second graders take out books and have a short story time.  Grades 3-5 students receive instruction in the use of the various materials and resources available to them. They circulate books during a second visit to the Library Media Center.

The Computer Lab is set up for use either for small group instruction or individual research, either on the Internet, using our computerized catalog or working with our networked programs.

In conjunction with the Parent Teacher Organization-Parent-Student-Teacher Connection, reading incentive programs and Book Fairs are conducted semi-annually.
