SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER

The School Resource Officer Program is a collaborative effort by law enforcement, educators, students, parents and the community to teach the value of the legal system in schools in an effort to reduce crime, drug abuse, violence, and provide a safe school environment. The program takes a proactive approach to safety. When students feel safe they want to come to school, they focus more on their studies and they become more involved in the school and it’s activities.

The Norwich Police Department and Norwich Public Schools are moving forward with our mutual goal of enhancing the safety of our middle school students. Working together we can bridge the gap between police officers and young people to increase positive attitudes, help students formulate an awareness of rules, authority and justice, and promote respect for people and property. In doing so, we give the students a realistic understanding of the laws and community so they will have an investment in supporting and working to keep it safe.
