The goal of the Special Education program is to help students become successful and independent. Instruction in the middle school moves from "learning to read and write" toward "reading and writing to learn." Learning becomes more complex and challenging; study skills become more important. To that end, special education teachers work with regular education teachers, providing small group instruction and student access to assisted technology.
The resource program offers the least restrictive environment and increases the instructional options for students with learning disabilities. It allows students to work in small groups on basic skills.
Students who require a higher degree of consistency
and
behavior modification access the TOP (time out program) for part of the
school day. Students with special needs receive customized
instruction.
This program encourages students to function as independently as
possible
and interact as frequently as is appropriate for same age peers.
It is a hands-on community based program.
