The science curriculum for second grade consists of air and weather, balance and motion, and organisms.
We use the Everyday Mathematics program in second grade. It is a challenging program that uses games, hands-on activities, and manipulatives to provide an exciting way to learn math. The program builds upon concepts and provides constant review and connections between units.
Second grade concentrates on narrative writing. We use the writing diamond to help students gain a sense of structure in the writing process. Students work on developing a story with a good beginning, middle, and end while including supporting details and descriptions.
Lanquage Arts encompasses the use of literature to help students learn reading and writing skills. We use the Harcourt-Brace program along with several trade books; Miss Rumphius, A New Coat for Anna, and A Chair for My Mother.
