Read for 30-60 minutes each day.
Talk about your reading with a reading partner (i.e. mom, sibling, grandparent) for 15 minutes each day.
Write about reading (30 minutes). Respond to questions and thought prompts below:
- Choose a character from a section of your text you just read. What can you infer about the character? Cite specific evidence to support your inference.
- What is the central idea of the text? Explain how the author develops this central idea throughout the text by connecting the characters, setting and plot. Be sure to include specific examples in your answer.
- Identify at least two lines of text that you feel advance the plot or cause one of the characters to make a decision. Provide a clear explanation that includes examples from the text in your answer.
- Think of another story that is similar. Explain how its themes, patterns of events or character types are the same.
