Superintendent's Corner
In March 2025, Ms. Susan Lessard was officially appointed Superintendent of Norwich Public Schools, following her service as Acting Superintendent since September 19, 2023. Prior to that, she led John B. Stanton Elementary School as Principal for six years. Since joining Norwich Public Schools in 2017, Ms. Lessard has become a highly respected and trusted leader throughout the district.
Before her time in Norwich, Ms. Lessard served as an Assistant Principal in Cheshire Public Schools, where she also worked as a reading and math coach. Earlier in her career, she was an elementary school teacher in East Lyme Public Schools and worked as an educational consultant, supporting schools in Brooklyn and the Bronx, New York.
Ms. Lessard holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Western Connecticut State University, a Master’s degree in Education from Eastern Connecticut State University, a 092 Certificate in Administration from Southern Connecticut State University, and a 093 Superintendent Certificate from Sacred Heart University.
In addition to her distinguished career in education, Ms. Lessard is a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served as a Military Police officer during the Gulf War. She remains deeply connected to the veteran community as an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and serves on the Board for Veterans Helping Veterans, a local organization that raises funds to provide therapy service dogs for veterans in need.
