Superintendent's Corner
Dr. Kristen Stringfellow was appointed Superintendent of Norwich Public Schools July of 2019. Dr. Stringfellow is a longtime educational leader hailing from the neighboring state of Rhode Island. She has over 34 years of experience in education and believes all children should have equitable access to an engaging, rigorous and appropriate education. She has specific expertise in educational finance, reading & writing education, TESOL and dual language instruction, differentiated instruction and school and district turn around work.
Prior to her appointment as Superintendent, Dr. Stringfellow served as Superintendent of Schools in South Kingston, RI for over 10 years where she successfully implemented dual language immersion schools, raised academic achievement at all levels and increased graduation rates. During her tenure, Dr. Stringfellow spearheaded a dual-language immersion program that provides literacy and content instruction in English and Spanish, with the goal to develop cultural literacy and to ensure preparedness for bilingual college and career options leading to employment in a global economy. In 2017 she was named Rhode Island Superintendent of the Year. Prior to her time as Superintendent, she served many leadership roles in education, including but not limited to: Assistant Superintendent of Scituate Schools, Assistant Superintendent, ESL Director, Title 1 Director, and Director of Gifted & Talented at East Providence Schools, Principal at Scituate Providence Schools, and elementary school teacher at Scituate Schools.
Dr. Stringfellow received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Education from Rhode Island College, Master of Education in Early Childhood & Elementary Education from Rhode Island College, and Masters of Education in Administration from Providence College. She also earned a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Research & Curriculum from University of Rhode Island/Rhode Island College Joint Program as well as a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Leadership from Johnson & Wales University. Dr. Stringfellow holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Education Finance from Johnson & Wales University.
Dr. Stringfellow is a teacher at heart, and continues her time in the classroom as an Adjunct Professor of School of Finance at Providence College.
