Internet Access



Dear Families of Norwich Public Schools:

There are many companies willing to support the continuation of student learning at home during this hard time. The following companies are taking immediate steps for Norwich residents to help connect you to the internet and/or if you are in need of data for students to use a cell phone. Certain providers are offering discounted prices or free services for a certain time period. The providers are following the Federal Communication Commission agreement, which states that providers will waive late fees, not cut off service for lack of payment, and open hot-spots. If anything changes or new providers will service the Norwich area we will keep you updated. 

For Internet Services:

  1. Comcast: New Internet Essentials customers will receive two free months of Internet service, which is available to all qualified low-income households for $9.95/month plus tax.

  • Xfinity WiFi Free For Everyone: Xfinity WiFi hotspots located in businesses and outdoor locations across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free – including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers. For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots and then launch a browser.

  • Pausing Our Data Plan: With so many people working and educating from home, we want our customers to access the internet without thinking about data plans. While the vast majority of our customers do not come close to using 1TB of data in a month, we are pausing our data plans for 60 days giving all customers Unlimited data for no additional charge.

  1. Frontier is committed to helping qualified low-income individuals pay for telephone or qualified internet services. Lifeline service is a non-transferable (from one person to another) government assistance program that provides a discount on the cost of monthly telephone service only ($7.25) or qualified internet access service with or without telephone service ($9.25). Lifeline is limited to one discount per household and only eligible customers may enroll. To receive the Lifeline discount each month, you must certify that you or someone in your household currently receives benefits from one of these programs:

  • Medicaid (also known as Husky Health)

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) formerly Food Stamps

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8)

  • VA Veterans Pension (Supplemental Income for Wartime Veterans)

  • VA Survivors Pension

You may also qualify if your annual income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

  1. AT&T: AT&T will continue to offer internet access for qualifying limited income households at $10 a month through our Access from AT&T program. We’ve expanded eligibility to Access from AT&T to households participating in the National School Lunch Program and Head Start. Additionally, we’re offering new Access from AT&T customers two months of free service.

  2. Verizon COVID-19 response: no special offers, but following the FCC agreement.

  3. Sprint COVID-19 response: follows FCC agreement, provides unlimited data to existing customers, and, starting Tuesday, 3/17/2020, will allow all handsets to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge.

  4. T-Mobile COVID-19 response: follows FCC agreement, plus unlimited data to existing customers, and, coming soon, will allow all handsets to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge.

  5. Mint Mobile: Starting 3-15-20 through 4-14-20, Mint Mobile will be providing all current and new customers with FREE unlimited high-speed data add-ons.
    Download or update to the most recent version of the app:

  • Tap “account” and tap “buy more data”

  • Add data in 3GB increments. 95% of the data add-on must be used prior to adding an additional data add-on

  • Your credit card will be charged and then refunded within 24 hours. Bank Cards typically take longer to process.
