Distance Learning

District

Dear Norwich Families and Staff,

I hope that ALL Norwich Public School families and staff are safe, healthy, and practicing social distancing. Please know that your teachers, principal, staff and I miss you all very much and we can’t wait to have you all back safely in our schools. Until then, we are launching our distance-learning plan for students.

This week we are kicking off our first phase of distance learning. Now is the time to establish a school area in your home where your child can work on their schoolwork distance-learning plan every day. Please go to www.norwichpublicschools.org and click on the distance-learning tab and then click on the grade level to find:

  • Cover Letter and Distance Learning Log
  • Reading Assignments for the week
  • Math Assignments for the week

Additionally, please engage in the “Virtual Field Trip & Home Engagement Activities.” Students will color in a block on a grid as they complete each experience. These will be turned in to teachers when we return to school.

On Friday, we will release Phase 2 of our distance-learning plan. Students will follow a schedule and log onto the computer programs they know and use at school.

This week your teachers will be in virtual meetings learning about how they can provide the electronic distance learning to you. They will be busy preparing videos of themselves teaching for Phase 3!

For those families that would prefer paper and pencil learning tasks, “Take Home Packets” will be available later this week at the NPS Meal Sites (check the website for locations). The packets will include 2 week’s worth of paper and pencil learning.

We all know this is very stressful for all families (including mine) but we are hopeful that these structured learning times will help bring a sense of normalcy to life for all of us. We understand that nothing will be completed “perfectly,” we are just asking you to do the best you can.

Stay safe and be well!

Kristen E. Stringfellow, Ed.D., Superintendent
