Paper packets will be at every meal site starting March 25, 2020. You do not need to pick up a paper packet if you are planning to use the online version. They are exactly the same. Meal locations and times are posted here.

Phase One (March 23-27, 2020):

  • Families set up space for their kids to work, start building work and play routines, let kids know teachers are going to be checking their work.

  • Students complete Virtual Field Trip & Home Enrichment Activity Guide. Students color in a box for each task completed and save their work to turn in to their teachers when we return to school.

  • Teachers & Principals participate in virtual meetings, experiment with virtual teaching and communicate students’ usernames and passwords to students.

  • Dr. Stringfellow will communicate new information to NPS families by Friday, March 27, 2020.

Phase Two (March 30-April 3):

  • Families set up schedules for their children to engage in Distance Learning.

  • Students log in to online learning platforms they know (i.e. Imagine Learning, RAZ Kids, ZEARN, and Reflex Math) through www.clever.com/in/norwich, and follow the suggested learning schedule.

  • Teachers and Principals check in on students’ online work. Teachers share how they will communicate with students (i.e. Google Classroom, Class Dojo). Teachers work to prepare video lessons.

  • Dr. Stringfellow will communicate new information to NPS families by Friday, April 3, 2020, regarding Phase Three.

Dear NPS Parents,

Due to the Coronavirus, we are experiencing unprecedented times. Although not required, It is our hope that families will choose to keep their children actively engaged in learning during this extended school closure. Our students are very familiar with our online platforms, which they log in to through a single sign-on and use these platforms on a regular basis during the school week.

Many of the K-8 online learning tools we use at school are available through the CLEVER Platform. Many of our students know their CLEVER usernames and passwords. For students that need support with usernames and passwords, they will be shared by their classroom after noon on Friday, March 27, 2020.

We understand that Distance Learning is new to all of us. We also understand that many parents will be working at home at the same time their children will be engaging in learning at home. This is a challenge! We encourage families to create their own schedule that meets the needs of their individual families. Consider, starting your youngest learners early in the morning and your older children later in the day. However, the experts agree, daily routines and schedules are critical for families during this time.

Our NPS Instructional Team is communicating daily to plan and prepare for a potential long term closure. We will be taking small, thoughtful steps, across a series of phases, to help our teachers, parents, and students adapt to this new type of learning. Phase One included deepening our understanding of our students' and teachers’ access to technology, mobilizing our teacher teams, creating a long term roll-out plan for Distance Learning. Phase Two includes the introduction to online learning in Reading and Math, as well as the introduction of paper packets for families that prefer print materials which are made available at NPS Lunch Sites and designed to provide 10 days of learning.

The learning environment is important. It’s also important to remember that children learn differently and may perform better in different work environments.  What may work for one child may not work for another. Please help your children create their own learning space — at the kitchen table, on their bed, in a comfy chair in the living room. For older students, you may find a rotation works well for different subjects, especially for those students accustomed to visiting a different classroom and teacher for Math, English, Social Studies & Science.

Students participate in Online Learning OR the Paper Pencil Packets available at meal sites.
