District 3.0 Pilot BinaxNOW Antigen Testing January 19, 2021
Case St, Adult Ed, NTA, Central Office begin to offer COVID-19 antigen testing to symptomatic students and staff
NORWICH, CT, January 4, 2021 — Norwich Public Schools will continue to expand their rapid COVID testing pilot. Six additional schools will offer free in-school testing for symptomatic students and staff using BinaxNOW at Bishop, Global, Mahan, Uncas, Veterans & Wequonnoc Schools. The district plans to roll out testing to all schools and locations as of January 19, 2021. Students and staff are not required to test, but a signed consent form is needed to test an individual. This is an opportunity for those if they develop symptoms at school.
Superintendent Dr. Kristen E. Stringfellow volunteered to participate in this testing program on behalf of the school department. She noted that it is a free and convenient way for students and staff who become symptomatic at school (or work) to be tested on their way home to quarantine and rest. Stringfellow believes it will save families and staff the trouble of waiting in lines and making appointments and speed up internal contract tracing when a person tests positive.
Abbott's BinaxNOW™ COVID-19 Ag Card is a rapid, reliable, highly portable, and affordable tool for detecting active coronavirus infections. The test is performed on-site, delivers results in just 15 minutes, and is free. Test results for a symptomatic person lead to quicker contact tracing/quarantine and control the spread of COVID-19. Testing COVID-19 symptomatic individuals within the first seven days of symptom onset is critical for accuracy.
