Superintendent Letter: Learning Plan Update

District

Dear Families,

Today, I participated in a meeting to review the health metrics related to COVID-19 in the City of Norwich. Health metrics in the City remain high but the positivity rate among children remains low. Based on that data, my plan is to ease us back into the hybrid model slowly and then attempt to ease us into full in-person learning. Please know that it is a very fluid process and could change at any time based on the health data. For the week of October 19-October 23, most learners will still be remote.

NPS parents still have the option of “Temporary Remote Learning” and that will continue to be honored by the Governor. Here is an update on the percentage of students currently in remote learning at the request of their parents. As you can see, in a full re-opening there will only be 60-75% of learners in school and in hybrid, there will only be 30-35% of students attending in person.

Please note that cohorting is still in effect yet we plan to expand the cohort. Breakfast, lunch and specials will still be held in the classroom or outside. We are not largely accessing community spaces within the school (gymnasium, cafeteria, main office, nurse’s office (unless escorted)). The restroom and mask break schedule is still in effect. Specialist teachers are still assigned to a cohort.

I truly hope we are able to fulfill this plan. We need your help to ensure that we are welcoming our students back in the safest manner possible. Please continue to call or email your principal if students or staff are symptomatic, have close contact with a COVID positive person, or test positive. Please stay home if you are sick. Thank you for your partnership.

Sincerely,

Kristen E. Stringfellow, Ed.D.
Superintendent
