Dear Uncas Elementary Families,
Welcome to the 2020-21 school year! I hope everyone is enjoying the summer as well as preparing for the upcoming year by reading new books, writing about your favorite experiences, and practicing math skills. I am excited to welcome our new “Wolves” to the Uncas Wolf Pack and reconnect with our returning students. The staff at Uncas is committed to working with, understanding, and nurturing all students. The 2020-21 school year promises to be a year of growth for your student. We will begin the year with a combination of remote learning and in-person instruction. Parents also have the option to have their child participate in full remote learning. In all scenarios, we will work as a team to provide the very best for your student’s academic and social/emotional needs.
There are a few items I would like to outline to you before students arrive on September 8th.
Uncas School’s start time will be 8:45 am and dismissal, for the first week only, will be at 1:35 pm. After the first week, dismissal will be at 3:35 pm.
For students in Cohort A (last names A-L), your first day is Tuesday, September 8th.
For students in Cohort B (last names M-Z), your first day will be Thursday, September 10th.
For students participating in full remote learning, devices will be available for pick up during the first week of school (Sept. 8th-Sept. 11th), along with access to the online platforms and curriculum.
For parents who are dropping off (arrival) and picking up students (dismissal):
Please utilize the parking lot to drop off your child. Your student will enter the building using the cafeteria doors.
If you wish for your child to be picked up daily, you will need to notify the office with the name(s) of people authorized to pick up your student. Any parent/authorized adult will need to bring a picture ID with them in order to pick up any student(s).
This year, parent pick up will be held in the back of the cafeteria. We ask that parents park in an available spot in the lot, and wait in the rear of the building, near the basketball courts, maintaining physical distancing from one another. A staff member will assist parents in the sign-out process.
Students living in the immediate area of Uncas School, including Oakwood Knoll, Pembroke Avenue, Upper Elizabeth Street, etc. will be walkers. A staff member will supervise those students as they walk off the school grounds.
This year, we will hold a virtual Open House during the week of September 14th. More information will follow regarding the virtual Open House. Finally, I would like to welcome the following new members to our staff:
Sabrina Pasquarelli - Reading Teacher
Gloria Pitters-Alfred - Special Education Teacher
Karen Weinberger - Nurse
Tricia Wong - Music Teacher
I am very excited for the 2020-21 school year. As always if you have any questions, feel free to call or email. I look forward to the most successful year where we support the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students at Uncas School.
Peter Camp, Principal
