Safe School Climate
Norwich Public Schools is committed to creating and maintaining an educational environment that is physically, emotionally, and intellectually safe. All staff will demonstrate use of a wide range of positive intervention and instructional strategies throughout the learning environment to promote a positive school culture and climate to increase student achievement. Currently each school has a Safe School Climate Committee designed to analyze data, provide professional development, and/or monitor implementation of school climate initiatives. There are many programs and practices in place in the Norwich Public School district to improve school climate. These include, but not limited to; Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, advisory programs, student council, and mentor programs. Currently all schools work with Family Liaisons which help communicate with and strengthen family and community partnerships. Additionally School Governance Councils provide an opportunity to involve parents, guardians, and community members within each school community to assist with the school climate work. Each school has developed a Safe School Climate Plan which specifically focuses on areas of improvement for each school.
