January 18, 2019
Dear Wolf Pack Families,
Happy New Year! The Uncas students and staff have had a very busy start to 2019! The Wolf Pack have been working hard getting back into the school routines, as well as meeting the expectations of the classroom. Our teachers have been planning engaging lessons, designed to meet the needs of all of the students. We have also had our chorus deliver such fantastic music at our annual Winter Concert held last night. Special thanks to Mr. Maynard who led our chorus in their performances.
During January, along with delivering high quality instruction, our teachers also administer various Reading and Math assessments. Our staff uses the information from the assessments to plan appropriate instruction for our students. In meeting with teachers, it is clear that many of our students showed tremendous progress from the beginning of the year. If you have specific questions regarding your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to contact your son or daughter’s teacher.
As a Commissioner’s Network school, we regularly report our attendance data to the State Department of Education. I’m happy to report that our attendance data has shown steady improvement from the beginning of the year. Currently, 9% of our students are identified as chronically absent. Our school goal is to have less than 5% of students classified as chronically absent. Daily attendance is vital for your child’s success, both academically and social/emotionally. Please note that at 8:45 am we open the school for breakfast and by 9:00 am, our students’ are engaged in learning. Please help us reach the goal by making every effort to support your child in their preparation for school.
Finally, our next family event, “Choose Love Night,” will take place on Wednesday, February 13th from 6:00-7:30 pm. The event will feature various learning stations for families where they can participate in fun activities connected to our social/emotional curriculum. The founder of the Choose Love Movement, Scarlett Lewis will also be in attendance as a guest presenter. Food and drink items will be available, along with various prizes. More information will go home with your child in the coming weeks, but for now, mark your calendars for this fun, family event!
As always feel free to call the office or email me (email@example.com) if you have any questions.
