Want to Finish Your High School Education?

General Educational Development (GED®)

The new version of the GED® test has been implemented and will be offered only on the computer. Test takers will register on line, but must be approved for scheduling by the Adult Education Registrar.

The new test battery consists of four parts: Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA), Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies. The test is approximately 7-1/2 hours in length. The types of questions are varied and include multiple choice, drag and drop, fill-in-the blank, drop-down selection, short answer, and extended response formats. The new GED® Test will align with current high school graduation standards and demonstrate test-taker readiness for employment, workforce training and post-secondary education. Additional information may be located at www.GED.com. Norwich Adult Education is offering classes both day and evening that will prepare students to pass the new GED® test.

Free GED® Classes

The GED® (General Education Development) course is an intensive review session conducted for those who need to prepare quickly for the GED® examination. Traditional classroom instruction is provided in English, Social Studies, Math, Literature, and Science to review for the seven and a half hour high school equivalency examination.

The GED® exam is offered weekly at NAE to individuals who are at least 17 years of age and have been officially withdrawn from school for a minimum of six months. A withdrawal document with parental signature is required for all 17 year olds and a support document is required for all 18 year olds. There is a $13 registration fee for all who are 21 years and older (except veterans).

Accommodations for the GED® test are available for qualified individuals through the GED Testing Service.

For more information, please contact Allison Griswold, GED Coordinator, at the Adult Education Center (860-823-4299) or the CT State Department of Education GED office.
