Notification of a reported concern at Global Studies
Posted 09/11/2019 05:23PM

2nd Message to Families ---

This is a follow up message regarding the issue of safety reported earlier today.

The Norwich Police have located the object. It was a BB gun with no BBs inside. At this point it is a police matter.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have requested police presence at the school tomorrow morning.

Again, it is important to remember that if you see or hear of any potential threat, that you notify the police and school immediately. The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to us.

Thank you for your attention to this matter of safety.

Ist Message to Families ---

This is Dr. Kristen Stringfellow, Superintendent of the Norwich Public Schools.

This afternoon we were notified that a Teacher's Middle School student may have brought a gun (or an object with the likeness or facsimile of a gun) on the afternoon bus. By the time the concern was reported to us the students had already departed the afternoon bus and the bus was empty.

We immediately contacted the Norwich Police Department. We take any report of a possible weapon extremely seriously. The Norwich Police have searched the empty bus and it has been cleared. Police are deploying to the residence of the suspected student. At this time there has been no weapon (or likeness or facsimile of a weapon) found. All students and faculty remain safe. We will keep you updated as the situation unfolds.

It is important to remember that if you see or hear of any potential threat, that you notify the police and school immediately. The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to us.

Thank you for your attention to this matter of safety.
