Message from Principal Camp

Dear Wolf Pack Families,

As we head into our upcoming break, I am writing to you to wish all members of our community Happy Holidays! The Uncas students and staff have been very busy celebrating the many traditions and customs that represent our Pack. Our teachers have planned and delivered engaging lessons, designed to meet the needs of all of the students. We also took time over the last week to participate in some festive activities where students were able to get in the holiday spirit and show Pack Pride!

When we return in January, we will be ready to begin our Winter assessments, where we will see the progress your students have been making since the beginning of the year. In my regular meetings with teachers, it is clear that many of our students are showing tremendous progress and I look forward to seeing their continued growth. If you have specific questions regarding your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to contact their teacher.

Finally, another reminder of our attendance goals. We continue to strive to have less than 5% of students listed as chronically absent. Currently, approximately 9% of our students are identified as chronically absent. Daily attendance is vital for your child’s success, both academically and social/emotionally. Please note that at 8:45 am we open the school for breakfast and by 9:00 am, our students are engaged in learning. Please help us reach the goal by making every effort to support your child in their preparation for school.

Thank you again for your continued partnership during these unprecedented times. I am so proud to be a member of such a strong learning community and appreciate your support!  Wishing you and your families a joyous holiday season and I look forward to our work together in 2022!

Dear Uncas Elementary Families,

Welcome to the new school year! I hope everyone is enjoying the summer as well as preparing for the upcoming year by reading new books, writing about their favorite experiences, and practicing math skills. I am excited to welcome our new “Wolves” to the Uncas Wolf Pack and reconnect with our returning students. The staff at Uncas is committed to working with, understanding, and nurturing all students. The 2021-22 school year promises to be a year of growth for your child. Our teachers are committed to providing rigorous and engaging instruction to help your child reach his/her maximum potential.

There are a few items I would like to point out to you before students arrive next week. The first day for students is Monday, August 30th. Uncas School’s start time will be 8:45 am and dismissal will be at 3:35 pm. Last year, due to the pandemic, we had to adjust many of our routines and practices in order to keep everyone safe. As we transition to a new school year, some of those practices will continue. Our drop-off/pick-up procedure will remain the same. Please see the following for students who will be dropped off (arrival) and picked up (dismissal) by parents/guardians:

  • Please utilize the parking lot to drop off your child. Your student will enter the building using the cafeteria doors.
  • If you wish for your child to be picked up daily, you will need to notify the office with the name(s) of people authorized to pick up your student.  Any parent/authorized adult will need to bring a picture ID with them in order to pick up any student(s).
  • This year, parent pick-up will be held in the back of the cafeteria. We ask that parents park in an available spot in the lot, and wait in the rear of the building, near the basketball courts, maintaining physical distancing from one another. A staff member will assist parents in the sign-out process.

Our “Back to School Meet and Greet,” for all parents and students will be held on Thursday, August 26th from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. It will be an outdoor event where you can meet your child’s teacher. We hope you will be able to join us for some pizza and refreshments.

I am very excited for the 2021-22 school year. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. I look forward to a most successful year where we support the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students at Uncas School.

Go Wolves!
