Dear Wequonnoc Families,
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! We are excited to see your students in person for learning. Families received their child’s teacher assignments at our Back to School Picnic on August 26, 2021. If you are unable to attend, please call our main office or reach out to me (firstname.lastname@example.org.)
In addition, I wanted to provide you with a few friendly reminders to help you start the school year.
Our doors open at 8:45 am for the start of school. Please be mindful that there will be no before care offered at this time. If you are opting to drop off/pick up your child at school, you must park on the street. In addition, please communicate any changes in your child’s primary dismissal plan to the main office and your child’s teacher in writing by 12:00 pm each day. To ensure your child’s safety, we need this information by that time to communicate to our staff. If you do not know your child’s bus stop information, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
For dismissal, we will be disbursing walker/pick-up students based on their geographic location (Uphill/Downhill). If your home address is in the direction of Ponemah Mills, your child will be a downhill student. If your home address is in the direction of Norwichtown, your child will be an uphill student. Dismissal will start at 3:30 pm.
Attendance is critical to your child’s success. If your child is absent, please let us know by calling the main office. If you have any questions regarding attendance, please reach out to our attendance and family engagement coordinator, Rob Dantzler, by calling our school number.
COVID-19 Visitor Policy
At this time, no outside visitors are permitted to enter the school. If you need to meet with your child’s teacher or a member of our staff, please contact them via email or by phone and we can set up a time for a virtual meeting.
COVID-19 Mitigation Plans
Per Governor Lamont’s Executive Order, all individuals must wear masks when inside a school building. Please provide your child with extra masks in their backpack to wear throughout the day. In addition, please practice with your child mask-wearing.
In addition, all students should come to school with a water bottle, (refillable water bottles are recommended). Students will not have access to water fountains but can refill using the water bottle filling stations.
Communication and Updates
Staff at Wequonnoc use a variety of communication tools including KiNVO, Social Media (Facebook/Twitter), and ClassDojo. Please reach out to your child’s teacher about signing up for ClassDojo. In addition, a weekly newsletter will be sent out to all families on Sunday mornings communicating upcoming events, it will be called “Week @ Wequonnoc.”
Supporting your child at home
We truly believe in the power and value of an effective home-school partnership in supporting your child’s academic and social development. One of the many ways you can support your child at home is reading with them daily for at least 15 minutes and playing games with them to support mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
